I'm particularly interested in taking an 'ecological approach' to gardening - natural planting styles, relating gardens to their surroundings, and encouraging wildlife; combining practicality with beauty.
The design process is generally as follows:
- I pay a visit to you and your garden to establish your needs, to present my portfolio, and to understand the scale of the work;
- I provide a quote to redesign the garden. This is influenced by the size of the garden, and complexity of the plans you require. For instance you may want detailed planting plans, or a simple 'layout plan' only;
- On acceptance of the quote, I undertake a survey of the garden, noting boundaries, key features, aspect, soil type and so on.
- I then draw up outline plans for the garden, which I discuss with the client. Alterations are noted;
- Finalised plans are drawn up.
Design plans are to scale, hand-drawn and usually colour. Typically I might produce:
- a layout plan with at least a minimal amount of planting information;
- plus a perspective and/or elevation view,
- and a section diagram if it might be useful.
Notes can accompany the drawings on:
- plants (latin name, common name & key characteristics) considered suitable for the garden conditions;
- a suggested schedule of tasks to create the garden (useful if you’re doing the work yourself);
- an estimate based on my own costs to build and plant the new garden (please note hard landscaping work I may need to be contracted to a reputable builder
- I do not employ anyone directly, but do have some recommended contacts).
